Experimental Study on Pollutants Treatment in Desulfurization Wastewater by Oxidation Using Electrodialysis–Electrolysis Method

ABSTRACT Desulfurization wastewater is among the most challenging types of wastewater in coal‐fired power plant operations, and effective treatment is essential for zero discharge. This study proposes an electrolysis–electrodialysis process to remove Cl − from desulfurization wastewater while generating process water and hypochlorous acid. The experiment used an electrodialysis–electrolysis device to treat simulated and real‐world desulfurization wastewater samples, investigating the impact of various factors on the processes' feasibility and effectiveness. Results showed that a current density of 30 mA/cm 2 optimized ion selectivity and chloride ion removal efficiency, achieving 60% and 75% removal rates for ammonia nitrogen and COD concentrations of 678.8 and 294.9 mg/L, respectively. These findings demonstrate the potential of using an electrodialysis–electrolysis device for efficient desulfurization wastewater treatment and resource utilization.
