The Function of Antisemitism in the Age of Scientific Medicine
ABSTRACT The shift from a theological to a scientific rationale for modern (post-nineteenth century) antisemitism has long been disputed, with most scholars now stressing the continuity and overlap between both models. Less attention has been paid to the `overt integration of the science of race with clinical medicine, as a basic premise of the rise of scientific thinking during this period. This essay provides exempla for the complexity of such integration on the part of Jewish and non-Jewish clinicians.
