The role of animated short movies in teaching narrative writing to foster critical thinking

This study investigates the effectiveness of incorporating animated short movies into a scientific approach to improve students' narrative writing skills and promote critical thinking. Utilizing a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent pre-test and post-test control group framework, the research involved 33 participants divided into experimental and control groups. Data were collected through pre- and post-intervention assessments to evaluate comparative outcomes. The findings indicate a statistically significant improvement in narrative writing proficiency among students exposed to animated short movies compared to those taught via conventional methods. Furthermore, the intervention was perceived as engaging and enjoyable, suggesting that animated short movies serve as an effective pedagogical alternative to traditional lecture-based instruction. This study underscores the potential of multimedia-based learning tools in promoting both cognitive and creative development in academic settings. The findings of this study indicate that the use of animated films can enhance students' narrative writing skills. The increase in post-test scores compared to pre-test supports the effectiveness of animated short films. These results indicate that animated short films are a significant and effective tool for improving narrative writing skills. In conclusion, the use of animated short films as an interesting and fun engaging tool can improve students' critical thinking in the classroom.
