Transforming India’s Textile Sector: Pathways to a Circular and Sustainable Future
India has one of the biggest textile industries in the world, employing over 45 million people and providing roughly 2.3% of GDP, making it an important part of the national economy. However, the use of dangerous chemicals, excessive water use, and huge waste output all contribute to this sector’s enormous environmental impact. These difficulties highlight how vital it is to switch to sustainable methods. A revolutionary way to lessen these environmental effects while promoting economic growth and innovation is to shift to a circular economy, which places an emphasis on reuse, recycling, and waste minimization. In order to assess the prospects for implementing circular practices, this article first explores the idea of circularity in the context of India’s textile sector, looking at how it can transform patterns of production and consumption. Second, in order to demonstrate the advancements being made and the direction towards a more sustainable textile sector in India, this article presents actual instances of innovative companies and projects, ranging from recycling fabric waste to developing sustainable fashion lines. Finally, by offering practical suggestions, this research seeks to further the conversation on sustainable development and establish India as a world authority on circular fashion.
