Green Threads: Human Connection with Nature in Richard Powers’ The Overstory
The Overstory, a novel by Richard Powers, is an exploration of the complex interplay between humans and nature, with a focus on themes of eco-friendliness in contrast to those of materialism. In the novel, the examination of eco-consciousness is conducted through the way in which the experiences of hardship and suffering lead to the development of environmental awareness. Through ecocritical methodologies, the article aims to explain in great detail the significance of being earth-conscious, which appears in the novel. “This is the tale of how their lives merge in a multifaceted composite: the struggles the people involved are facing for this cause of responsible protection of nature and the environment.”
