Women Entrepreneur’s Role in Innovative and Sustainable Fashion and Textiles

The environmental effects of the previous 20 years of accelerated economic globalisation have highlighted how important it is to think sustainably about production and consumption to ensure long-term sustainability globally. The factors above and the shift in developing nations’ economies from planned to market economies have put a strain on the social structures that currently govern gender inequality and women’s economic empowerment. The middle class, where women’s fundamental needs were met and formal education was more easily accessible, has mostly profited from this influence. Such women are likely to be motivated to become entrepreneurs to combine their personal and professional responsibilities, according to the literature in this field. It has been asserted and taken for granted that these women might have a greater tendency to adopt ecopreneurship because of their cultural influences and insufficient motivations. The Indian fashion industry has been a vibrant and expanding sector that has made a substantial contribution to the nation’s cultural heritage and economy. Empowering women entrepreneurs in the Indian fashion industry while promoting green growth is not just an economic opportunity but a necessity for sustainable development. By merging traditional expertise with modern sustainable practices, women can transform the industry into a beacon of innovation and environmental responsibility. Such an approach will uplift communities, preserve the environment, and establish India as a global leader in sustainable fashion. On their own, women leaders in the fashion and textile industries have turned concepts into profitable ventures. While some have succeeded by bringing about a revolution in e-commerce, others have promoted sustainability and inclusivity in their endeavours. Additionally, their natural desire to protect the environment can serve as a defining factor in promoting “ecopreneurship.”This review paper will highlight the role of women entrepreneurs in promoting and contributing to green growth for sustainable development in the fashion industry and the challenges they are facing.
