Impact of post-storage pulsing on vase life of tuberose (Polianthes tuberosa L.) cv. Calcutta Double

An experiment was carried out at Horticulture Research Station, BCKV, West Bengal to study the effect of post-storage pulsing on preservation and floret senescence tuberose spike. The experiment was laid out in factorial complete randomized block design in three replications where first factor was three levels of pulsing and second one was two levels of time intervals. The spikes were divided into two lots each consisting of 64 spikes. One lot was kept for pulsing in sucrose (20%) solution and the second lot in solution containing sucrose (20%) + 8 hydroxyquinoline sulphate (400 ppm) + citric acid (0.25%) for a period of 12 and 24 hours. The results revealed that increase in the duration of post-storage pulsing from 12 to 24 hours, the post-storage quality of flowers in terms of solution uptake and flower opening have been decreased by way of increasing the floret wilting. However, with increase in the duration of dry storage from 12 to 24 hours, the uptake of vase solution under post-storage condition increased in spikes which were post-storage pulsed for 12 hours with sucrose (20%) in combination with 8 HQS (400 ppm) and citric acid (0.25%) acid and sucrose (20%) alone.
