Pharmacological evaluation of Moringa Oleifera leaves extract for MBSA-induced arthritis in Swiss Albino mice

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a debilitating autoimmune disease marked by persistent inflammation of the synovial joints, leading to tissue degradation and functional loss. Current pharmacological treatments, though effective, are associated with adverse effects. Moringa oleifera, a medicinal plant rich in bioactive compounds, has demonstrated anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and immunomodulatory properties. This study investigates the pharmacological efficacy of Moringa oleifera leaves extract in a methylated bovine serum albumin (mBSA)-induced arthritis model in Swiss Albino mice. Animals were divided into five groups: normal control, arthritic control, standard treatment (indomethacin), and two Moringa-treated groups (200 mg/kg and 400 mg/kg). Paw thickness, arthritis scores, hematological and biochemical parameters, and histopathological analysis were evaluated. The Moringa-treated groups exhibited significant reductions in paw edema, serum inflammatory markers, and histological damage compared to the arthritic control. These findings support the therapeutic potential of Moringa oleifera leaves extract in rheumatoid arthritis management.
