COMPUTER VISION FOR POSTURE AND GAIT ANALYSIS IN PHYSICAL THERAPY: ENHANCING MOTION ASSESSMENT USING DEEP LEARNING
The first signs of neuromuscular dysfunction become apparent through posture and gait abnormalities which serve as essential tools for diagnosing and treating various physical impairments. The traditional gait analysis system using marker-based optical motion capture provides precise results but remains too expensive and difficult to operate and limited to controlled laboratory settings.Physical therapists now have access to affordable camera-based systems through deep learning and computer vision advancements which enable them to track movement and assess biomechanics and monitor recovery progress in real time. This paper investigates the relationship between artificial intelligence deep neural networks and physical therapy applications for posture and gait analysis. The use of conventional RGB and depth cameras enables pose estimation algorithms to achieve near-clinical accuracy in joint angle estimation and gait phase segmentation and cadence and range of motion measurement without requiring wearable markers or laboratory-grade sensors. The new technology enables the development of home-based rehabilitation systems which provide accurate feedback through scalable methods even when patients work independently.Deep learning models that receive training from extensive annotated datasets can both detect abnormal patterns and create personalized exercise plans based on individual biomechanics. The field shows promise but faces multiple obstacles including data Computer Vision for Posture and Gait Analysis in Physical Therapy: Enhancing Motion Assessment Using Deep Learning https://iaeme.com/Home/journal/IJAIMED34 [email protected] and standardization issues as well as privacy concerns and challenges with real-world clinical setting generalization. The combination of computer vision technology with physiotherapy practice has the potential to transform clinical assessment and correction and rehabilitation of human movement in various healthcare environments.
