The slimy menace: Pancreatic gelatinous carcinoma with a splenic affair
ABSTRACT Pancreatic colloid carcinoma (CC), a rare pancreatic neoplasm, represents about 1% of all pancreatic tumours, characterised by floating epithelial cells in well-circumscribed pools of mucin. Though rare, this has a higher median overall survival when compared to pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. Despite the presence of metastasis, patients achieve extended survival, with surgery recommended as the mainstay of treatment. The lack of established treatment guidelines for pancreatic CCs is attributed to its rarity. Awareness of this entity in pancreas is important considering its favourable prognosis. Detailed histopathological examination complemented by immunohistochemical stains will aid in nailing the diagnosis.
