Development of a Bingo Game for Upper Limb Recovery in Stroke Patients: Needs Assessment and Effectiveness Verification
Objective : This study aims to develop a new rehabilitation tool called “RehaBingo,” a bingo game designed to promote upper limb function recovery in stroke patients, and to verify the tool's necessity and effectiveness. Methods : From March to June 2024, the RehaBingo tool for upper limb recovery was developed. A needs assessment was conducted with 20 occupational therapists, and an effectiveness assessment was performed with 20 stroke patients. Research tools included the RehaBingo game, a needs assessment survey, the Korean version of the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE-K), and the Manual Function Test (MFT). Data were analyzed using SPSS ver. 25 with descriptive statistics and paired sample t-tests. Results : Occupational therapists highly evaluated the RehaBingo tool in terms of “OT intervention” and “motivation and participation” although “ease to use” received relatively lower scores. The effectiveness assessment with stroke patients showed significant improvement in MFT upper limb movements and finger manipulation, with the most substantial improvement observed in upper limb movements(p<.05). Conclusion : The “RehaBingo” tool developed in this study can be considered an effective tool for enhancing upper limb function and motivating rehabilitation in stroke patients, with potential for inclusion as a supportive tool in stroke rehabilitation programs. Future research should focus on refining personalized features to improve user experience.
