Interpretation of Several Khitan Large Script Characters
Research in Khitan scripts primarily revolves around decipherment, while systematically organizing and standardizing the already deciphered graphemes is an essential fundamental task. In the current research landscape, remarkable headway has been achieved in standardizing Khitan Small script graphemes. However, the organization and standardization of Khitan Large script graphemes are still in their nascent stage. Currently, there is a research tendency where decipherment studies and grapheme standardization are progressing in tandem. This paper takes two groups of Khitan Large script graphemes, namely and , and , as its research objects. Through systematic grapheme form analysis and documentary research, it shows that and , and are not, as traditionally assumed, variant forms of the same grapheme. Instead, they are independent Khitan Large script graphemes. On this basis, the paper further puts forward new interpretations for several Khitan Large and Small script graphemes, providing fresh perspectives for promoting the systematic study of Khitan scripts.
