Formulation and Evaluation of Liposomal Suspension of Ofloxacin

The present study focuses on the formulation and evaluation of a liposomal suspension of Ofloxacin to enhance its therapeutic efficacy. Ofloxacin, a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic, suffers from limitations such as poor bioavailability and rapid systemic clearance, which restrict its clinical effectiveness. To overcome these challenges, liposomes were formulated as a drug delivery system and subsequently suspended to achieve controlled and targeted drug release. Physical characteristics like particle size, encapsulation efficiency, and in vitro drug release were examined for the liposome formulations.. The particle size distribution in the final formulation was well-controlled, which is beneficial for the formulation, targeted and efficient drug transport, coupled with superior encapsulation capacity and a prolonged drug release behavior. Stability studies confirmed the physical and chemical stability of the liposomal suspension over time. The liposomal Ofloxacin formulation proved to be effective against selected bacterial strains. These findings suggest that liposomal suspension of Ofloxacin offers a promising approach for improving drug delivery, minimizing side effects, and enhancing antibacterial efficacy. Validating its therapeutic potential and exploring its application in is necessary through studies clinical settings
