One-Pot Regioselective Functionalization of Quinone Imine Ketals: Direct Access to ortho-Substituted Anilines from Arylamines

Herein, we have demonstrated an acid-catalyzed reaction that selectively performs the ortho-functionalization of anilines in a nondirected one-pot procedure. In addition to dramatically simplifying the synthesis of ortho-substituted anilines, our approach has the advantage of the scalability and remarkable regioselectivity, including product derivatization. The control experiments provide insight into the reaction mechanism and the origin of ortho-selectivity.

Abstract

Herein, we have demonstrated an acid-catalyzed reaction that selectively performs the ortho-functionalization of anilines in a nondirected one-pot procedure. In addition to dramatically simplifying the synthesis of ortho-substituted anilines, our approach has the advantage of the scalability and remarkable regioselectivity, including product derivatization. The control experiments provide insight into the reaction mechanism and the origin of ortho-selectivity.
