Alcohol‐related liver deaths double: Many factors involved
Alcohol‐related liver deaths doubled between 1999 and 2022, with the greatest increase occurring from 2018‐2022, according to recently published research. According to the study, “Alcohol‐associated liver disease mortality,” published in JAMA Network Open on June 11, there were disproportionate increases among women, young adults aged 25 to 44 years, and American Indian and Alaskan Native populations. The researchers suggested that the acceleration of alcohol‐associated liver disease (ALD) mortality during and following the COVID‐19 pandemic highlights the need for intervention among high‐risk populations.
