Abstract 2063 Exploring the Effects of Dolutegravir on Placental Function
Introduction: The World Health Organization (WHO) reported that in 2023, up to 1.2 million pregnant women were living with the human immunodeficiency virus type one (HIV-1), and over 84% received antiretroviral therapy (ART) to prevent viral transmission to the developing fetus. Dolutegravir (DTG) is an integrase inhibitor that is recommended in standard ART by the FDA for all HIV-1 patient populations, including those who are pregnant. Pregnancy pathologies associated with DTG use include pre-eclampsia and fetal growth restriction (FGR), but the causal mechanisms are largely unexplained, and intervention options are limited.
