Abstract 2511 Integrating Laboratory Research into PUI Coursework: The Characterization of a Bacterial D-Aminoacyl-tRNA Trans-Editing Enzyme as a Curriculum-Spanning CURE
Integrating authentic research experiences promotes retention of diverse students in STEM and provides students the opportunity to develop and use core skills necessary for a career in science. Course-based undergraduate research experiences (CUREs) are inquiry-driven laboratory experiences that allow students to answer a research question while gaining experience with experimental design, literature reviews, and relevant laboratory techniques. The research programs of faculty at primarily undergraduate institutions (PUIs), particularly small liberal arts colleges, predominantly or entirely include undergraduates.
