Abstract 2259 Understanding the Pathways Underlying Retinoid Metabolism in Lung Fibroblasts
Adult lungs accumulate retinoids (vitamin A and its metabolites) and have the second-highest concentration of these bioactive lipids among tissues, following the liver. Our single-cell RNA-seq analysis of retinoid-containing cells in the adult lung identified a subset of alveolar fibroblasts, lung lipofibroblasts (LFs), as the predominant cell population responsible for storing retinoids, alongside other neutral lipids. LFs are located in the alveolar wall between capillary endothelial cells (ECs) and alveolar epithelial type 2 cells (AEC2s) in both murine and human lungs.
