Abstract 2680 Principles of mitochondria as signaling organelles
Our research investigates the role of mitochondria in regulating physiology and disease, with a focus on translating these findings into therapeutic applications. Historically, mitochondria have been primarily recognized for their biosynthetic and bioenergetic functions, synthesizing macromolecules and generating ATP. However, our studies have demonstrated that mitochondria also serve a critical signaling role by releasing reactive oxygen species (ROS) and metabolites independent of their roles in ATP production and biosynthesis.
