Abstract 1647 Cloning, Expression, Purification, and Analysis of the FusionRed Fluorescent Protein in a Biochemistry Laboratory Course
Biochemistry students at the University of Tampa are required to complete a credited course aimed towards subcloning, transforming, expressing, and purifying the enhanced green fluorescent protein (EGFP). Proteins containing intrinsic fluorescence have evidently revolutionized biochemical experiments by facilitating the visualization and labeling of proteins in cells. This semester long project provides an in-depth understanding of common lab techniques to undergraduate students as well as critical thinking skills in a scientific setting.
