Abstract 2178 Using site directed mutagenesis in a CURE (course-based undergraduate research experience): Insights from the MDH CUREs Community

For undergraduates, conducting scientific research has been shown to correlate with increased persistence in STEM majors and greater sense of scientific independence. Providing ample opportunities for research for all undergraduates can be a challenge, but Course-Based Undergraduate Research Experiences (CUREs) are a way to provide this opportunity in the classroom. Because developing a CURE de novo can be daunting for faculty, the malate dehydrogenase CUREs Community (MCC) was designed to be a supportive network to assist faculty to offer CUREs in their courses.

Abstract

For undergraduates, conducting scientific research has been shown to correlate with increased persistence in STEM majors and greater sense of scientific independence. Providing ample opportunities for research for all undergraduates can be a challenge, but Course-Based Undergraduate Research Experiences (CUREs) are a way to provide this opportunity in the classroom. Because developing a CURE de novo can be daunting for faculty, the malate dehydrogenase CUREs Community (MCC) was designed to be a supportive network to assist faculty to offer CUREs in their courses.
