Abstract 2585 Engineering Arabidopsis Against Geminiviruses
Geminiviruses are an aggressive group of single stranded DNA (ssDNA) plant viruses that negatively impact plant development, preventing successful crop yields that inhibit food sources for the general population across the globe. In previous studies, Arabidopsis thaliana was used as a model plant for studying geminivirus-host interactions. A geminivirus resistance gene (GRP1) was identified in an arabidopsis accession (Pla-1), mapped, cloned and transferred to a susceptible ecotype Columbia 0 (Col-0), which showed resistance to Cabbage leaf curl virus (CaLCuV).
