Abstract 1210 Influence of mouse background strain and sex on renal salt and water handling
The kidneys play an essential role in maintaining homeostasis through filtering the blood and balancing body fluid and electrolyte levels. Two genetic strains of mice, C57 and 129SV, are routinely used to study renal physiology in laboratory settings. Prior observations suggest that significant differences in salt and water handling exist between the two strains, and between sexes. This study aimed to better establish the sources of these observed differences, particularly at a transcriptional level.
