Abstract 2024 Structural and Biophysical Analyses of Inorganic Pyrophosphatases from N. gonorrhoeae and C. trachomatis
Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) continue to increase globally despite efforts to prevent their spread. Two primary STIs are gonorrhea (Neisseria gonorrhoeae) and chlamydia (Chlamydia trachomatis) which contribute to over 1 million new infections each day. Antibiotic resistance exacerbates this issue as it is associated with increased morbidity and mortality in bacterial infections. Infections due to antibiotic-resistant bacteria account for 700,000 deaths per year globally, a number expected to grow to 10 million deaths per year in 2050.
