Abstract 2447 Vascular Endothelial Expression of PGC1α Prevents Sarcopenic Obesity

Background: Sarcopenic obesity has historically been defined as an increase in adipose tissues (obesity) accompanied by age-related muscle loss (sarcopenia). Amongst the rapidly growing global aging population, obesity has been steadily on the rise and the global rate of obesity-related death doubling within the last two decades. Alarmingly, the incidence of sarcopenia is increasing even in younger adults with obesity, leading to a redefining of sarcopenia as muscle loss regardless of age. Sarcopenia greatly reduces daily functioning, making it a crucial element in evaluating the quality of life for patients.
