Abstract 1851 Modulation of the Oxidative Stress Response by Ribosome-associated sRNAs in H. volcanii
Oxidative stress occurs when there is an imbalance between the accumulation of reactive oxygen species and antioxidant mechanisms. Unresolved oxidative stress causes cellular and DNA damage. An investigative study combining Ribo-seq and RNA-seq data under oxidative stress conditions in the halophilic archaeon Haloferax volcanii revealed many differentially regulated small noncoding RNAs (sRNAs). Mechanisms of gene regulation by sRNAs have been well-studied in eukaryotes and bacteria, yet they remain less understood in archaea.
