Abstract 2174 Allosteric Noncompetitive Inhibition of the Bacterial Enzyme N-Succinyl-L,L-2,6-Diaminopimelic Acid Desuccinylase (DapE)
Bacteria have become increasingly resistant to antibiotics, therefore there is an urgent need for new drug classes of antibiotics to help fight antibiotic resistance. To this end, our research is focused on inhibitors of the di-zinc metalloenzyme N-succinyl-L,L-diaminopimelic acid desuccinylase (DapE), as a promising drug target. DapE is only present in bacteria, including the ESKAPE pathogens that can cause potentially deadly infections, thus inhibitors of DapE offer promise as potential antibiotics with a new mechanism of action without mechanism-based side effects in humans.
