Abstract 2004 CRISPR in Bdelloid Rotifers: Optimizing Uptake of sgRNA/Cas9 Complexes for Targeting DNA Ligase E in Adineta vaga
Bdelloid rotifers are microscopic freshwater invertebrates unique for their resistance to desiccation and ionizing radiation due to their ability to recover from large numbers of double-strand breaks in their DNA. Transcriptome sequencing has revealed candidate DNA repair genes that are upregulated in irradiated rotifers. Understanding the functions of these genes will help to reveal the mechanism of DNA repair in these animals. CRISPR genome editing provides a method for mutating and inactivating candidate DNA repair genes.
