Abstract 2792 Metabolic Modulation of V-ATPase Proton Pump in the Aging Lysosome
Patient age is the primary risk factor for many complex diseases, including metabolic disorders, neurodegenerative diseases, and cardiovascular conditions. Numerous determinants of aging are conserved even in lower eukaryotes. Among these, lysosomes, the degradative organelles crucial for removing damaged proteins and organelles, play a central role in theories of aging. Lysosomal function depends on the action of V-ATPases, highly conserved proton pumps responsible for acidifying organelles, including lysosomes, across all eukaryotic cells.
