Abstract 2823 Identification of potential GALNTs in microinvertebrates using a novel predictive HMM
Protein glycosylation, a type of protein post-translational modification, in which a monosaccharide is bound to protein by a glycosidic linkage. These modifications are commonly seen in animals, plants and microorganisms. One of these protein glycosylation mechanisms is the O-linked N-acetylgalactosamine (GalNAc). This modification alters a galactose molecule for it to bind serine and threonine residues. Once GalNAc is added to Ser/Thr, additional glycans can be attached, ultimately forming complex glycoproteins.
