Abstract 2113 Deciphering O-GlcNAc Dynamics in Myocardial Ischemia: Insights from an OGT Enriched Quantitative Interactome Analysis
The post-translational modification of thousands of intracellular proteins with O-linked β-N-acetylglucosamine (O-GlcNAc) plays a pivotal role in governing cell and tissue function, as highlighted by studies in models of myocardial ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury. During ischemia, O-GlcNAc levels initially increase before decreasing below baseline; blocking this decrease activates protective pathways, improves heart function, and reduces infarct size. The regulation of O-GlcNAc-cycling hinges on two enzymes: the O-GlcNAc transferase (OGT) and O-GlcNAcase (OGA), which are responsible for adding and removing O-GlcNAc, respectively.
