Abstract 1423 Investigate a downstream complex by mutating the ubiquitin conjugating enzyme UbcH5b
Maintaining protein homeostasis is essential in a cell. The ubiquitin proteasome system has the ability to send misfolded proteins through the degradation pathway. The covalent binding of ubiquitin, a 8.6 kDa protein, to the misfolded protein initiates this process, which is known as ubiquitination. A ubiquitin is transferred to a specific, misfolded substrate protein by the upstream proteins E1-ubiquitin-activating enzyme, E2-ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme (UbcH5b in this study), and E3-ubiquitin ligase (CHIP, in this study).
