Abstract 2316 Interplay among Gbg, GSK3b and microtubules and the mechanism of Neurodegeneration
BACKGROUND: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a neurodegenerative disorder, and it is characterized pathologically by extensive loss of neurons. Hyperphosphorylation of Tau (a microtubule-associated protein) leading to Tau aggregation and neurofibrillary tangles (NFT) formation emerged as a major feature in the pathogenesis of AD. However, more recent studies indicate that many AD patients with significant cognitive decline do not exhibit Tau hyperphosphorylation and NFT formation, but microtubule (MT) disruption was consistent in all patients suggesting that further exploration is necessary to understand the disease mechanisms.
