Abstract 2454 The role of Wnt/β-catenin signaling in mediating blood-brain barrier dysfunction during progression of Alzheimer's Disease
Background: Alzheimer's Disease (AD) is characterized by the deposition of excessive Amyloid-β (Aβ) plaques and is increasingly recognized as a multifaceted disease involving blood-brain barrier (BBB) dysfunction, as manifested by the disruption of the brain endothelial cells (BEC) barrier integrity. Wnt/β-catenin signaling is a crucial pathway for the maturation of the BEC barrier, and may serve as a therapeutic target. APC, along with GSK-3β, CK-1α, and β-catenin, are key components of the canonical Wnt signaling complex, with APC leading to the degradation of β-catenin.
