Abstract 1853 Comparative Proteomic Analysis of Nitric Oxide Sensing Mutants: ΔhnoX and ΔnosP in Vibrio cholerae
Nitric oxide-sensitive bacterial proteins H-NOX and NosP are haem-based sensors that regulate biofilm formation in response to nitric oxide (NO). NO is a diatomic gas that plays many roles in bacterial physiology. High levels of NO cause nitrosative stress which leads to bacterial cell death by altering cell functions and low levels are implicated in the regulation of biofilm formation. Vibrio cholerae is the causative agent of cholera and biofilm formation has been found as a survival mechanism in aquatic environments.
