Abstract 1618 Identifying the gaps in assessing complex student outcomes in CURES
The American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB) developed a recommended curriculum in 2006 that focuses not only on concepts and content, but also on expected student outcomes, many of which best result from participation in authentic research experiences. Course-based Undergraduate Research Experiences (CUREs) embed these experiences directly into undergraduate curricula. This increases the number and diversity of students benefitting from research experiences compared to the traditional apprenticeship model, leading to higher retention and positive outcomes.
