Abstract 1427 What amino acid residue is Responsible for the Interaction of Atg11 with its Autophagy Partner Atg9?
Autophagy is a cellular function induced by stress or starvation. It involves the formation of a double membrane autophagosome, which is used to transport cytoplasmic cargo (such as proteins, lipids, and organelles) to the vacuole (in plants and fungi) or lysosome (animal) for degradation and recycling. These degraded cytoplasmic cargoes are reused as fuel for the cell. Selective forms of autophagy can defend against cancer, disease, and aging. About 41 proteins have been identified as responsible for autophagy, however, the roles of most of these proteins are unclear.
