Abstract 1065 The Burkholderia thailandensis efflux pump EmrB regulates virulence and motility in response to different wavelengths of light
Antibiotic resistance threatens global public health, food security, and the economy. Efflux systems contribute to antibiotic resistance by extruding antibiotics from the intracellular spaces to the extracellular environment. EmrB in Burkholderia thailandensis is a member of the major facilitator superfamily (MFS), one of the known efflux systems. It is encoded in the same operon as a transcription factor, BifR, and divergently oriented to a gene, which codes for a protease (LasA) implicated in elastin degradation and virulence in Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
