Abstract 2538 Cell Surface Receptor-Mediated Indole Signaling in Intestinal Epithelial Cells
The gut microbiota plays a pivotal role in human health, with its dysbiosis linked to numerous diseases. Among its metabolites, tryptophan-derived compounds such as indole and indole acetic acid are critical in maintaining intestinal barrier integrity through diverse signaling pathways. While the aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR) has been established as a cytoplasmic receptor for indole derivatives in colonic epithelial cells, recent studies also indicate AHR-independent mechanisms modulating inflammatory responses.
