Abstract 2821 Characterizing MK-STYX's Subcellular Localization in Primary Hippocampal Neurons
MK-STYX (mitogen-activated kinase phosphoserine/threonine/tyrosine binding protein) is a dual-specificity member of the protein tyrosine phosphatase family. It is a pseudophosphatase due to its lack of the essential amino acids, histidine and cysteine, in the catalytic active signature motif (HCX5R), thus rendering it catalytically inactive. MK-STYX has been found to be highly expressed within the human hippocampus. Our previous reports show that MK-STYX increases the number of primary neurites in PC-12 cells stimulated with nerve growth factor and primary rat hippocampal neurons.
