Abstract 1574 Metabolic Dysfunctions of the Western Diet and Alcohol: Their Impact on the Gut-Liver-Brain Axis
There are two main causes of liver disease: poor diet and alcohol consumption. The liver controls digestion, metabolism, and immunity. With this, chronic liver disease will be systematically devastating for the human brain and liver. Metabolic dysfunction associated with steatotic liver disease (MASLD) occurs when simple sugars and saturated fats are consumed excessively, resulting in lipogenesis, inflammation, and oxidative stress. The disease was previously linked to excess body weight, but is increasingly diagnosed in lean individuals, suggesting dietary choices significantly impact the disease.
