Abstract 2824 Epoxy Alcohol Rearrangement to Access Pharmaceutically Relevant 2-Naphthol Scaffolds
Our lab has identified a high-yielding, operationally simple synthesis to substituted 2-naphthols. These compounds are a common structural feature of many biologically active molecules. These molecules, such as 2-arylpyrrolidines and TPY-β type compounds (also known as “Betti bases”), have been shown to have possible pharmaceutical applications. Overall, we have identified a 4-step synthetic route in which a unique acid-mediated skeletal rearrangement/aromatization reaction results in substituted 2-naphthols in yields up to 98%.
