Abstract 1836 Atypical binding of a Toxoplasma gondii secretory protein to host ALG-2 during infection
Apoptosis-linked gene 2 (ALG-2) is a homodimeric EF-hand calcium-binding protein that functions in membrane repair, vesicle budding from the ER, and several other processes. For its a crucial role in repairing damaged cellular and lysosomal membranes, ALG-2 collaborates with key components of the Endosomal Sorting Complex Required for Transport (ESCRT), including ALG-2 interacting protein X (Alix) and TSG101, by recognizing short linear motifs on partner proteins through three distinct peptide-binding pockets.
