Abstract 2187 Initial characterization of Phosducin-like protein 3 of the malaria vector Anopheles stephensi
Phosducin-like proteins (PhLPs) are small thioredoxin domain-containing proteins that are highly conserved in eukaryotes, where they play roles in G-protein signaling and the regulation of the actin and tubulin cytoskeleton. Here, we describe the identification and biochemical characterization of the PhLP-3 protein of the malaria vector Anopheles stephensi (AsPhLP-3). This single-copy gene is located on chromosome 2 in the A. stephensi genome (73,993,075 - 73,995,070 (+)). The 25 kDa protein exhibits 72% sequence identity with the recently published Drosophila melanogaster PhLP-3, including a putative redox-active cysteine.
