Abstract 2551 Indirect pathway for asparaginyl-tRNA formation in Bacillus subtilis
Life has evolved two distinct routes for attaching asparagine (Asn) to its cognate transfer RNA (tRNAAsn), an essential step in protein synthesis. In the direct pathway, asparaginyl-tRNA synthetase (AsnRS) ligates Asn to tRNAAsn. The indirect pathway is a two-step process where Asn is synthesized on tRNAAsn. A non-discriminating aspartyl-tRNA synthetase (ND-AspRS) ligates aspartate (Asp) to tRNAAsn to form the misaminoacylated species, Asp-tRNAAsn. The tRNA-dependent amidotransferase GatCAB transamidates the misaminoacylated tRNAAsn to Asn-tRNAAsn.
