Abstract 1082 Ocimum gratissimum leaf aqueous extract modulated the expression of antioxidant and inflammation related-genes in Bisphenol-A induced nephrotoxic rats

Bisphenol-A (BPA) is a synthetic chemical compound that is widely used during the production of resins, plastics, and epoxy coatings. BPA can leach from products, resulting in human exposure via inhalation, ingestion and dermal absorption. This exposure is associated with various disorders in humans. In survey of ethnomedicinal plants, Ocimum gratissimum appears as one with great therapeutic benefits and high accessibility to communities. The aqueous extract from Ocimum gratissimum contains saponins, terpenoids, glycosides, and alkaloids, which qualifies it as an anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidative agent.
