Abstract 1850 Stress hormone receptors remodel the hepatic lipidome, increasing cell migration and fatty acid metabolism pathways
Chronic stress affects metabolism and increases visceral adiposity. These factors can lead to obesity, which is a major problem worldwide. The glucocorticoid receptor (GR) regulates genes that control metabolism and has two isoforms (GRα and GRβ). GRα binds to the stress hormone cortisol, while GRβ has no known ligand. Glucocorticoid resistance can be identified by increased expression of GRβ. We hypothesized that high levels of GRβ affect lipid metabolism in the liver and increase lipid synthesis.
