Abstract 1738 Regulation of Lipoprotein Lipase Activity and Triglyceride Metabolism by the Angiopoietin-Like 3/4/8 Protein Family and Apolipoprotein A5
The angiopoietin-like (ANGPTL) proteins ANGPTL3 and ANGPTL4 are critical inhibitors of the enzyme lipoprotein lipase (LPL), which hydrolyzes triglycerides (TG) in TG-rich lipoprotein particles to generate fatty acids (FA) for uptake into adipose tissue for storage or oxidative tissues for energy use. The recently discovered protein ANGPTL8 regulates TG metabolism in a calorically sensitive manner through the formation of ANGPTL3/8 and ANGPTL4/8 complexes, which have opposite effects on LPL enzymatic activity.
