Abstract 2407 Site specific consequences due to acetylation on the RNA helicase DDX39B for mitochondrial respiration

DDX39B, often known as UAP56, is an RNA helicase that participates in spliceosome assembly and nuclear export of mature mRNA transcripts. Previous work uncovered a lysine acetylation event on DDX39B in non-human primate liver tissue that was responsive to caloric restriction (CR), a dietary intervention that delays aging. Acetylation of lysine-162 (K162), located in the ATP-binding domain, was observed to increase in response to short-term CR in livers from young animals. Subsequently, we identified changes in mitochondrial respiration in response to single amino acid mutants of DDX39B that mimicked hypo- or hyper-acetylation in HepG2 cells.
