Abstract 2859 Investigation of Host Protein Cleavage by Neuroinvasive Viruses
The goal of this study is to investigate the cleavage of the human protein ADGRA2, ex-vivo, by the proteases of Zika Virus (ZIKV), West Nile Virus (WNV), and Enterovirus-71 (EV-71). Neuroinvasive viruses cause neuroinflammation and potentially devastating neurological disease, posing a significant threat to public health. The mechanism of pathogenesis is predicted to be due to host protein cleavage by viral proteases; viral proteases can target human host proteins in addition to their own viral proteins.
